AUTHOR'S NOTES: This is my first attempt at any kind of fan fiction, so it might not be the best. It's my own spin-off series based on the "Digimon: Digital Monsters" TV show. Episode One: Prelude

It was time.
After so many experiments, so many tests, so much trial and error, it was time.
16 year old Kevin Mann, thought by many to be the smartest kid alive, got all his scanners and other equipment together and started loading his latest invention. This device looked like an oversized go- cart with a jet engine, but it was much more complicated than that. This cart could travel on the ground or, once the wings were extended, in the air at very high speeds. But the best part of it, the part the Kevin worked the hardest on perfecting, was the device on the back. Although it looked like a jet engine, it was actually a distortion generator that would allow Kevin to travel to a parallel universe.
Ever since discovering almost a year ago that parallel universes were real, Kevin spent all his free time building, testing, and perfecting a machine that would let him travel to one of them. The funny thing was, all the parallel universes that he discovered were based on a TV show. There was a universe where the Power Rangers were real. There was one where Transformers fought the Beast Wars on a far off planet. But the one that interested Kevin the most was the one centered around the lives of eight young children and their small monster companions: the Digimon.
Now, it was time. Everything was set, the machine was charged, everything was all set. He was going to do it. He was going to travel to the world of Tai, Matt, Sora, Izzy, Joe, Mimi, TK, and Kari. He was going to meet the DigiDestined.
Kevin set the machine for one year after the defeat of Apocalymon, in an unused part of the city. He checked one more time to make sure he had everything set up right, held his breath, crossed his fingers, and hit "go."
A burst of light, and then...he was gone.
