Izzy and Tentomon are searching for Gennai. They come across a sign warning them of falling sludge. They also see 2 other signs warning them of a sludge pit and an attack sludge. Nowhere else to go, they end up in the middle of the three signs. The ground below them breaks and they fall into a pit.
Seeming to be no bottom to the black pit, they try desperately to stop falling. A voice is hear and it convinces Izzy to give up his curiosity in order to stop falling.
They enter Vademon's universe. Vademon, a digimon with a very large head, gives Izzy a book titled "All You Need To Know". He takes Izzy's curiosity to join the rest of his useless junk to sell.
Izzy begins reading the book, erasing his thoughts and becoming oblivious to things going on around him. Tentomon's attempts to snap him out of his zombie-like phase are useless. Izzy's digivice goes off and they receive a transmission from Tai from earth. Izzy ignores it and continues his training, Tentomon looking at him hopelessly, knowing that the Izzy he once knew was no more.
Vademon is pleased with all the junk he has. The doorbell rings and Demidevimon appears. He shows Vademon a picture of Izzy's tag and crest, requesting it. Vademon refuses, but obliges happily when Demidevimon offers to trade some of his curiosity for it.
Vademon returns to his universe through the back door of his shop. He says that in order to complete his training, Izzy needs to throw away excess baggage. Izzy empties out his pockets, then throws away his tag and crest. Tentomon tries to stop Vademon from getting it, but Vademon stops him with a blast from his 'gun'. Vademon disappears and leaves them.
Tentomon runs out of energy and devolves to Motimon. Izzy sees him and gets angry at him for interrupting his training. This makes Motimon devolve into Pabumon. Pabumon starts to cry and his tears turn into memories. In the little bubbles you see Izzy and Tentomon before Izzy gave up his curiosity. It snaps Izzy out of his trance and he runs over and hugs Pabumon, apologizing. The door between the universe and outside appears. They see Vademon holding Izzy's tag and crest and Demidevimon begging for it.
They open the door and peek through. Pabumon runs out into the hallway before Izzy can stop him, but Pabumon returns with his crest. Vademon and Demidevimon come running after him, but Izzy steps back into the universe. When Vademon and Demidevimon step into it too, Izzy and Pabumon escape, locking the door behind them.
Pabumon leads Izzy to the sac that holds his curiosity. Izzy transfers it back into his heart, just as Vademon and Demidevimon have broken down the door. Vademon attacks and Izzy and Pabumon are forced back into the universe. Dodging Vademon's shots, Pabumon digivolves to Motimon, then to Tentomon and then finally into Kabuterimon. When that still wasn't enough, Kabuterimon digivolves again to Megakabuterimon and defeats Vademon.
They're blasted out of the universe, and Megakabuterimon is back to being Motimon.
Matt, T.K., Tsunomon and Patamon appear and the six are happily reunited. A holographic image of Gennai appears who informs them of new information in Izzy's computer. Izzy downloads a favorite digimon of his - Megakabuterimon.
Meanwhile, Demidevimon is being punished by Myotismon for failing his task.
