A few days have passed, and the group is still looking for other people. They see a black gear fly over them in the sky and crash into a mountain. They pass through a forest with irrelevant road signs and then come across a desert with telephone poles everywhere. The temperature is extremely hot, and they're all ready to give up and stop walking, but Tai sees something in the distance through his mini telescope. He sights a village and fresh water, something everyone's desperate for.
They reach the village, but it turns out to be much smaller than Tai had thought. The houses were miniature, and belonged to a large group of Yocomon. The Yocomons invite them to have dinner with the, and they happily agree. T.K. spots a water fountain, and the Yocomon inform them that the water is from Mt. Mehiroshi, which is the best water in the world because the volcano's heat kills all the germs.
Back on the mountain, the black gear hits Meramon, a fire digimon who guards the mountain. He cries out in pain, then charges down the mountain towards the Yocomon village. The water in the fountain stops flowing and a large blast of fire is emitted instead. The Yocomon explain that they can't go check to see what's wrong because Meramon is guarding it. The group of kids and digimon rush to the lake, but it's totally empty except for a ship in it.
Tai uses his mini telescope and sees Meramon run down the mountain and begin to cut through the forest. Everyone freezes, but when Meramon reaches the desert, they all run to the sunken ship in the empty lake for safety. One by one, they each get on to the upper deck of the ship. Sora and Tai are getting them into the ship's opening, Matt, Joe, Mimi and T.K. are all on the upper deck, but Biyomon's still at the top of the lake's side making sure all the Yocomon are safe. Sora tries to get Biyomon to come and save herself, but Biyomon won't until all the Yocomon have reached safety. Sora comes up after her as Meramon reaches the empty lake's side. Biyomon tries to reason with him, but Meramon hits her with a fire ball and she falls. Sora runs up and catches her just in time, then Biyomon attacks Meramon with her spiral twister but gets hit with a fire ball. The other digimon attack too, but each blast just makes Meramon grow bigger instead of weakening him. Meramon continues to cry in pain.
Biyomon is determined to help her friends, and she digivolves to Birdramon. Meramon hits her with fire ball after fire ball, but Birdramon is able to take them in her wings and strike them back at him. Her attacks causes Meramon to fall, and the black gear in him shoots out and disintegrates.
After being put back to his good state, he explains to the Yocomon that he couldn't help himself. The Yocomon all understand, and then Meramon returns to the mountain. Everyone settles down to their promised dinner of some kind of food. Sora and Joe pass it up, though. Now that everything's okay, they're ready to continue their journey.
